Switchboard Upgrades

Switchboard Upgrades Across the Northern Rivers

Older switchboards were never designed for the way modern properties use electricity. Northern Rivers Power upgrades boards for homes, businesses and rural properties throughout the Northern Rivers NSW.

BOOK A SWITCHBOARD ASSESSMENT

Why boards get upgraded

Ceramic fuses, no safety switches, a board that's full, or one that trips repeatedly are all common reasons. Upgrades also come up when a property adds solar, a battery, EV charging, air conditioning or a new circuit and the existing board can't accommodate it.

Signs worth looking at

  • Ceramic rewireable fuses
  • No RCDs or safety switches
  • Frequent nuisance tripping
  • Scorching, heat marks or a burning smell
  • No spare capacity on the board
  • Damaged or deteriorating enclosure

Safety switches and RCDs

Safety switches cut power quickly when they detect a fault through a person or an appliance. Adding RCD protection is one of the more meaningful electrical safety improvements available for an older property, and it's usually done as part of a board upgrade.

Preparing for solar, battery and EV

Connecting solar, storage or an EV charger frequently requires switchboard work first — space for new breakers, correct protection devices and, where backup is involved, separating essential circuits. Doing this properly at the outset avoids rework later.

Homes, businesses and rural properties

We work on single-phase and three-phase boards across residential, commercial and rural sites, including sheds and outbuildings with their own distribution boards.

Any electrical safety concern should be assessed on site by a licensed electrician. The signs listed above are general indicators, not a substitute for an inspection.
